(Pics to come) Planning on repainting inside of A-Frame along with new flooring and lights, redoing the kitchen and bathroom.

Also this weekend we are remembering Carl Smith who passed away 10 yrs. ago yesterday. Would like to share thoughts from Carla his daughter:
It was 10 yrs. ago today that I watched my dad enter the arms of Jesus. I see glimpses of him daily in my children...a crooked smile, a sparkle in their eyes, passion for others...today is a celebration of his life! Thank you to all of you who have been so thoughtful in remembering and sending hugs my way! My life has been blessed...
I know Carl touched the lives of many, so feel free to share a memory you have of him and his family.

Happenings at Camp Cont.

The dining hall Project continues to progress. The latest is the awesome deck going up around the dining hall, check out the pictures! We have had some different groups come in to help us get it started. Thanks so much for everyones hard work on it. We are now waiting to hear from Timbertech, to see if they will donate any of the decking boards, otherwise we will just put down wood decking. Pray with us as we wait to see what is decided.

The inside still has a few projects that need to be finished up, but it still amazes everyone how different it looks. Looks amazing! Hopefully I can get a few pics. on here of the floor stained and the etching in the floor of the camp's logo that Darin Keeney did.

Sorry its been soooo long since I posted anything. All I can say is that life gets away from me and before I know it months have gone by.

Some recent happenings are; Jim had double knee replacements a couple months back and is doing well, please continue to pray for complete healing and full use of his knees. Also pray as David broke his ankle recently and had to have surgery. He has been in a cast for about three weeks now and has about three more weeks to go in a cast then lots of therapy. Pray that David can continue to "be still" during this time.

Camp life still continues as normal so thanks to the many people that have stepped up to help Jim out during David's down time. Camp is looking good thanks to the different groups that have given there time to do service projects, from spreading stone, clearing paths, picking up around camp to name a few I know of. Thank you!

Camp Newsletter

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px;

Demolition of the old Dining Hall ceiling began Nov. 23, kicking off a project to remake the interior of camp's most used facilities.
Jim Lapish, Dave Phipps and a host of volunteers are working to remake the space-taking care of some functional needs like replacing the HVAC and adding insulation, pouring new concrete floor and straightening out the electric.

Without the drop ceiling, you'll be able to see up to the existing Cathedral ceiling roof line, which they'll finish with tongue and groove wood much like the newer cabins.

Removing the poles and raising the ceiling should make it easier to arrange tables and contain the noise at our busiest times. And once the ceiling and floor are done, the entry door will be moved several feet to the north to put it farther away from the serving area. If you've ever been there when it's busy, you know what a help this will be!

The repairs and improvements are the first phase of a multi-year project to shore up our main camp buildings to be ready for decades of service and ministry. The Dining Hall will also be getting larger, nicer restrooms, and less-visible improvements are coming to the kitchen area, such as relocating the utilities and improving the ventilation. Once that works complete, we're looking forward to rebuilding the Rec Hall as a sturdier, more useful Welcome Center on the same spot.

We would love for you to take part, either as a volunteer or with a contribution. Send all contributions to: Stony Glen Camp

                              5300 West Loveland Rd.

                             Madison, OH 44057

GOOD NEWS IN THE MAIL

Sometimes the camp's e-mail includes great stories, like this one Jim Lapish received from Parma Heights Baptist Church in October:

Thanks so much Jim. We had a great retreat. 9 girls gave their lives to Jesus. 8 of those girls are from the community... It's exciting to see God working in their lives. Our groups are bigger than ever, and we're excited to see what God will continue to do in the coming years. Thanks for all you do.

FROM THE LAPISH FAMILY

What a precious season of our lives the past six months has been! It is an unexpected blessing to have our older children living in nearby Painesville for a time, and all the fun that entails-special dinners, doing ministry together, drop-in visits, and overnights for the younger children! Several family milestones have occurred in recent months.

Not only has Sam gotten his driver's license, but we have some other exciting news to share! Our daughter Olivia, and Steve McCormick will be having a winter wonderland candlelight wedding in the camp chapel in mid-December! In addition, at the end of December we expect to meet our first grand baby-a granddaughter to be precise-Elia Gabrielle Wilhelm! How great our joy! It is truly a joyous season fro the Lapish family! But none of these joyous events exceeds our one true JOY in the world and to the world...Jesus. It is Jesus whom we celebrate EVERY season. May you be wrapped in His joy unspeakable as you celebrate this Christmas season with family and friends.

Jim & Marisa

FROM THE PHIPPS FAMILY

Trust in the Lord will all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5&6

We are continuously reminded that we need to trust in the Lord more than ever in every situation, man will fail us but Jesus never.

It's hard to believe that fall is already here and winter just around the corner. We will continue to rejoice and be glad in it because after all we live in Ohio!

We were able to enjoy a few vacations this past spring and summer and we truly had a wonderful time being with family and friends and just being able to relax from the normal fast paced days.

David continues to work on, well, you name it and he's worked on it! Many projects have been completed or are almost there, thanks to those who have been willing to gibe David a helping hand. David continues to be busy with not just maintaining the camp but also greeting the campers and helping out in the kithing to name a few. The Lord continues to stretch David and make him get out of his boat and share with groups of people about life and what Jesus has and is doing in his life. Continue to pray Prov. 3:5&6 for David.

Tiffany is now busier than ever with running the kids to and from school, taking them to swimming lessons, volunteering at each of the kid's schools once a month and still working in the camp office a couple times a month. She does make some time for herself though and wouldn't trade her days for anything. As they say, this too shall pass.

Coleton started Kindergarten this past August and is really doing well. He loves to do homework and even wants mom to make up homework for him when he doesn't have any. Mmm...we may need to remind him of this later on. Pray for Coleton as for him change is really hard so going to a new school, moving into a different Sunday school class and moving up in to a new swimming class has been very hard for him. We as is parents try to continually encourage him and help him to understand that change is a part of life and yet there is one person who will never change, and that's God.

Hallie also started a new school this year and is going to Pre-K four days a week. She loves it and really has had no problem with everything "new" in her life. Hallie also loves to do homework but not her homework; she wants to do Coleton's homework!

Brenna is trying to keep up with her brother and sister. At first she couldn't understand where Coleton and Hallie were going and why she wasn't going too. Now she thinks when she and mommy go to the "Y" that it's her school and she is going to her class. She loves it. We did have a concern about Brenna not talking like she should be but now that she has given up"bebe" (pacifier) she is much more verbal.

We pray you enjoyed our update and that you will continue to uphold us in your prayers. God bless you all!

Dave & Tiffany

2010 SUMMER CAMP DATES

Christian Service Brigade

June 13-July 14

Cedarbrook Camp

July 14-August 14

Liberty Bible Deaf Camp

August 15-August 20

Make plans for Labor Day Family Weekend

Join other families for a fun weekend of play and Bible study at camp Sept. 4-7.

Our speaker this year is a familiar, friendly face: Bruce McLaurin, pastor of First Baptist Church of South Euclid, who some will remember from Labor Day 2006. This should make it much easier to keep clean, offer better flexibility for arranging tables and chairs, and create a great impression for visitors.
Our timeline puts the Rec Hall/Welcome Center project on the calendar for 2010-11. It would be on a slightly bigger footprint than the old build-ing, with new restrooms for arriving guests and a basement on the lower level with a walkout toward the Carl Smith Chapel.
As you may know, the six-decade-old Rec Hall is in need of a host of structural and cosmetic work -- plus its tiny restroom isn’t suitable for guests. But we also want to preserve its heritage, so the new building will retain several elements of the original Rec Hall, including the fireplace stone.
The idea is to shore up the camp's most visible facilities, to make sure they’re welcoming and useful for many years to come.
We expect the two projects to cost a combined $250,000. The good news is $70,000 has already been raised toward the Welcome Center build-ing. The camp operates debt-free, so your gifts by Sept. 15, 2009, will al-low the first phase (the Dining Hall/Kitchen) to start as planned in mid-November 2009.

Stony Glen Facilities Master Plan
Timetable is approximate, depending on funding.
2009-10
Dining Hall/Kitchen refurbishing
- open up vaulted ceiling, knotty pine
- add insulation and more efficient windows, to cut energy use
- new lighting, heating
- larger, ADA-compliant restrooms
- possibly move entrance away from serving area (with portico design to match Chapel building)
- remove unnecessary interior pole for better flexibility inside
- deck/porch with outdoor shaded seating
- replace kitchen drains
- update kitchen so it’s easier to maintain/keep clean
2010-11
Welcome Center built on Rec Hall site
- restrooms (boys and girls) for guests just arriving to camp
- lower level envisioned with meeting space and walkout to Chapel side
- incorporate existing fireplace/stone and other design touches
2012 and after
Shower House
- restroom/shower additions, which are needed at peak times
Don's Place
- restroom/shower addition

Q&A about the construction
Q: How long will all of this take?
A: We would like to complete the Dining Hall/Kitchen pro-ject during the two months from mid-November 2009 to mid-January 2010, when we don’t have as many groups using them. Then we could be ready to start the Rec Hall/Welcome Center project later in 2010, with expected com-pletion the following year.
Q: What led to the decision to tackle these two projects now?
A: Prayer, first of all. The camp’s board of trustees spent time this spring lifting up and considering what items should be Jim and Dave’s first priorities following the Patrick Cabin’s completion. Repairing the Dining Hall ranked first, followed by the Rec Hall’s needs. Eighty-five percent of the first-place votes went to those two projects and the need for the Welcome Center. From there, the staff and trustees drew up a master plan for construction that’s reprinted in the box to the right.
Q: Wasn’t the plan to put the Welcome Center by where the Store is now?
A: Yes. Then we were informed that for it to have restroom and shower facilities, we would first need to install a munici-pal-style sewer system -- which far exceeded our budget for the building. But as anyone who comes from out of town knows, decent restrooms in center camp are an urgent need. Also, board members received feedback that the Rec Hall site really is a better location for camp’s welcoming "hub."
Q: Would the Welcome Center have the same design as we saw before?
A: No, we have requested a revised design so the building fits this site better. The drawings aren’t complete yet, but the goal is to have it take up a slightly larger footprint than the Rec Hall, with two modern restrooms on the first floor and a nice meeting space near the lower-level walkout.
Q: I have some time off this winter. Could you use my help?
A: We need volunteers on the Dining Hall project! There will be plenty of work to do even if you’re not an old hand at construction -- moving things, cleanup, painting, feeding the crews -- around Thanksgiving, Christmas and after New Year’s. If you’re available individually or you want to volun-teer your church group to help, contact Jim Lapish about the best way to plug you in. He can arrange accommoda-tions if you’re staying overnight. Call 440-298-3264 or info@stonyglencamp.org.
Q: Can I make the donation in honor or memory of someone?
A: Yes. We would like to recognize gifts of at least $500 in a permanent display. It could be in honor of a friend who brought you to camp, a counselor who prayed with you or a family member who loved Stony Glen. If you’re interested in this, please attach a note letting us know.
Please take an envelope and consider supporting Stony Glen Camp in this way!

Stony Glen Camp celebrated with Insight as three students ( Alicia, Nate, and Emily) graduated from the program on May 17, 2009. It was a wonderful graduation. It started out with a dinner for the staff, students, and family members then at 7:00 p.m. was the graduation. It was a really special time with each of the students sharing what the year has taught them, and then their parents or grandparents shared about each of the students, followed by certificates being given and then a prayer time for each of the students. We are truly very proud of them and pray the Lord will continue to guide them as they continue down the path He has planned for them.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340307179535760770" style="DISPLAY: block; Even these pictures that I have finally had time to post are now outdated, but it gives you an idea of what one of the bedrooms looks like. The Patrick cabin is really coming along well, and looks great!! Thanks again for everyone who has put their time and energy into getting it done, prayerfully it will be done real soon! I hope to get some pictures of it posted soon. Also we continue to get input from the board on what our next big construction project will be after the Patrick cabin is completed. So far it looks like the dining hall may be the next building to get updated. Continue to pray for guidance for our board and Jim and David as they make these decisions.
God is so good, we continue to have groups in every weekend even with the economy down. We pray that we are a true blessing to each and every one of you.

Board Meeting

Today was our all day board meeting.
